If you look at a map of East Africa you will see Mt. Killamanjaro near Arusha. This is where the airport is--a mere 9 hour flight south from Europe! Oh, but it is worth the wait with its famous Northern Circuit of National Parks. These shots were taken in Tarangire, which is known for its elephant populations and all of the Big Five except Rhino. During our 3 night stay we saw hippo, ostrich, warthog, zebra, wildebeest, cape buffalo, 7 lions, 3 leapords, giraffe... the list is amazing. Did I say anything about the birds??
Tarangire Sleeping Elephants!!!
A famous Africa sunset awaited us everyday. No rain in the forecast. I think the red soil dust added to the beautiful sky.
We had popped the top of our Toyota Landrover to get close up shots. Very, very close!
Hungry elephants pull down acadia trees for their dining pleasure. They also came into our tented camp to munch on the trees on either side of my tent!!
Dry conditions allowed us to see hungry predators on the prowl. Our guide Patrick tracked this handsome lion and his brother.
This mama leopard was on her way to her cubs way up in this tree. Once reunited with 2 cubs we saw 12 paws dangling from a tree branch.
Ever since my first trip to Africa, the Twiga (giraffe) has been my favorite. They love to munch on acacia trees too. Somehow they are able to eat leaves and thrones together!
I left my heart in Africa.....Mama Twiga!
