Medieval German Villages of Mainz and Rudesheim

Most of Mainz was bombed at the end of World War II with only a few streets of the medieval old city surving.  I saw this dedication name plate which named a house when it was built in 1450.  It was renovated in 1708 and then again after the war in 1979.

 Half-timbered with flower boxes.
This is a new house rebuilt in the old style in the Market Place just outside of the 1004 year old cathedral.
On to Rudesheim for a afternoon and overnight along its banks.
Within a short cruise distance we arrived in Rudesheim which dates back to the 1400-1500's.  This wine village slopes from the vineyards down to the Rhine and is famous for the riesling white wine production of the Rhinegau Valley. There was no shortage of shops for browsing!
Hotels and restaurants are simply beautiful with outdoor courtyards.
We visited a mechanical orchestra museum located in one of the village's oldest private homes.
We were treated to demonstrations of some of the instruments before being treated to Rudehseim coffee!

Jud and Judy Awkerman, Gary Wulf, Wava Madden, Pete Madden and Diane Wulf enjoy the secret beverage ingredients of wine, sugar, coffee, whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
